Brush Fire Found to be
Controlled Burn
by Assistant Chief Chris Heptinstall
3/31/2010 Company 2 was dispatched for a report
of a brush fire in the 2300 block of Feather Road. Engine 2
responded with a crew of 4. Engine 2 found a haze of smoke in
the area upon arrival. Assistant Chief 2 established Feather
command. The source of the smoke was coming from a small wood
fire that was confined to barrel. Due to the amount of calls and
smoke created by the fire, the homeowner was asked to extinguish
it so it did not cause a further nuisance to the area.
We would like to remind everyone that the statewide burn ban is
in effect. Any controlled burning is prohibited before 4pm and
within 300 yards of woodland, brush land, fields of dry grass,
or any other flammable material. Also please remember that in
Roanoke County a permit is also required. Please check out the
following links below for more information.
