Crews Search for Cause of
Fire Alarm
by Firefighter Keith Ball
4/3/2010 Companies 2, 6, and 12 were alerted for
a commercial fire alarm at Cardinal Glass on Hardy Road. Engine
2 responded with a crew of 3. Engines 2 and 12 arrived on scene
to find a large commercial structure with nothing showing from
all sides. Lieutenant 2 (Carden) established Cardinal Glass
Command. Crews from both engines entered the building to
investigate and found no sign of smoke or fire. Ladder 2
responded and set up on the alpha/bravo corner so crews could
assess the roof top unit that was causing the alarm. The heating
and cooling unit was found to be frozen up. Crews cleared the
scene advising a faulty duct detector to be the cause. Units responding
from 2: Engine 2, Ladder 2 Other units responding:
Engine 12 (Read Mountain), Medic 23 (Vinton Fire & EMS/Roanoke
County), Rescue 21 (Vinton Rescue), and Engine 6 (Roanoke City)
