Engine 2 Goes to Structure
Fire
by Firefighter Keith Ball
7/18/2010 At 10:10pm Companies 6 and 7, Roanoke
City Engine 11, and Ladder 2 were dispatched to a structure fire
in the 4800 block of Goodman Rd. Engine 2 (with 4) responded in
place of Ladder 2. Medic 61 arrived on scene to find heavy smoke
showing from all sides and marked working fire. Wagon 6 arrived
shortly after and began an interior attack. Captain 6 assumed
Goodman Command. Wagon 7 and Medic 7 arrived and brought the
hydrant to Wagon 6. Crews on scene were unable to advance
further into the structure and with smoke conditions worsening
were pulled out as Engine 2 arrived on scene. An exterior attack
was then made from the Alpha, Bravo and Charlie sides. Shortly
after the fire was knocked down, crews rehabbed and began
overhaul. Access was made to the attic where hotspots were
extinguished. Engine 2 cleared from Goodman Rd at 1:53am with
all other crews clearing about half an hour later. The incident
was turned over to the Roanoke County Fire Marshal's Office for
investigation
