Engine 2 Handles Possible Structure Fire

by Assistant Chief Chris Heptinstall

3/21/2010

Vinton Dispatched notified Companies 2 and 6 to a possible structure fire in the 500 block of Cedar Avenue. Engine 2 was quickly on the road. Assistant Chief 2 (Heptinstall) arrived on scene, reported nothing showing from the exterior of a 2 story apartment complex, and assumed Cedar command. Upon further investigation AC-2 advised that there was a light smoke condition in the unit. Engine 2 arrived on scene and was notified that the source of smoke was due to a water heater with a failed electrical component. Command called the incident to be a can handle for Engine 2 as the fire was extinguished by cutting power to the unit. Engine 2 cleared shortly after.

Units responding from 2: Engine 2

Other units responding: Wagon 6 (Mount Pleasant), Rescue 22 (Vinton Rescue), Medic 23 (Vinton Rescue), EMS-2 (Roanoke County), and Vinton PD
