About Us:

Since 1925 the Vinton Fire Department has served the citizens of the Town of Vinton, Virginia and Eastern Roanoke County, Virginia. VFD also runs mutual aid responses to North Roanoke County, the City of Roanoke, Botetourt County, and Bedford County. VFD is a combination department comprised of 20+ volunteers, and career firefighters from Vinton Fire and EMS and Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Department. During the daylight hours Monday through Friday (6am to 6pm) calls are handled by the career staff. During the night time (6pm to 6am) calls are handled by the volunteers. Weekends are also handled by the volunteers. In 2009, the Vinton Fire Department answered 359 calls total.

The VFD operates a modern fleet of apparatus with one engine, one ladder, one wagon, and a tanker. The department also operates one brush unit and a response vehicle.

VFD responds first due to all structure fires, fire alarms (FA's), motor vehicle crashes (MVC'S), carbon monoxide alarms, and assists EMS on various calls in the Town of Vinton and Eastern Roanoke County.
